you guys are pretty much right on. when i was stationed in cali i used my home plates and registration due to me being active duty. the only bad thing is usually your base will make u pass a smog test in order to get a sticker. many of us would just go to a shady smog place in barstow and pay 100 bucks and we were done.
So now I have to get ahold of my SSGT who owns a LS1 swapped tempest to see what he did or *cough* who he paid *cough* to pass smog. Wtomlinson, is that your black Camaro with the black zr1 wheels? Also, do you mind hooking me up with the paperwork? lol. I'm a PFC MCCES student, hoping your not an officer lol. Thanks for the help guys... -Alex

Lejuene was fun. I only spent 2 mo in 29 stumps. I maintained my IL plates, but had to get a safety inspection for my base sticker. All they did was check all my lights, blinkers, windshield wipers, and alignment of headlights. This was back in '99, but can't imagine it changing much if any.
have to agree with you with Cali though... right now though, Cali is the lesser of two evils when I consider recruiting...
March 4th till the 10th or 11th... can't remember... Then I don't come off of leave till about the 21st of March. I am in the middle of taking 31 days of leave... I had something like 70.5 on the books and it was really time to burn some... lol.
Thought I might as well provide some input, here, too:
Once you bring your car here, and go through the JRC, they'll tell you that you need your car to be under the sniffer in order to drive on base, even though you might have out of state plates and tags.
The car has to be smog checked about every two years after that, depending how long you're out in cali. Watch yourself on that end, too; I had to replace my cats twice in the last two years to pass smog; when I bought the car, and after two years.

I am about to go into the land of no return on that one too... I don't have to pass smog for IL because I have a 95, and my exhaust plan does not include cats... long tubes are no big help either...
