They do block off streets to race at, they are called, check this. DRAG STRIPS. you know those things with lights, lanes, and cool stuff like that.

If you cant afford to drive 2+ hours to one, then can you REALLY afford to street race? Figure it up man, loss of your licence, insurance rates when you get caught go up, AND jail time goes hand in hand with court costs.

If you still cant afford it, then get a better job or try saving your money instead of throwing it at hookers and blow....
I'm going to agree with Streetsilverado. Every town doesn't have a dragstrip in them or close to them, but people complain about street racing. Then when the town wants to put in a dragstrip............the people complain about the noise. So I agree they should open air strips or some type of closed course for people who don't have a strip. Street racing will never die. It's been going on for what..........close to 75 years now?

There's towns where the nearest drag strip is at least 5 hours away. That's 10 hours of driving. Just to get 3 or 4 runs in then come home. The fact is that everyone that wants to stop street racing doesn't want to do anything proactive to stop it, they just want the government/police to take care of it. No one seems to understand what a compromise is.

Of course, building more drag strips is no guarantee that all street racing is going to stop. It has to be affordable. Some tracks charge an unreasonable amount of money for the amount of racing that you do. Some places are so crowded or move the staging lanes so slowly that most people only get 3 or 4 runs in over a 4 or 5 hour time span. Other places charge you out the wazoo to race. I'm lucky. I live a mere 30 minutes from the nearest drag strip, and it only costs $13 to race all night (Atco Raceway). I've only street raced once or twice because it was a spur of the moment thing and in the middle of the night.

Also, not everyone wants a timeslip. There's a little event called the Flashlight Races, or something like that, where it's just pure racing. They have a deal with a local airport and it's just a pretty girl with a flashlight to signal the start and an eighth mile race. Winner wins, loser loses. No timeslips, no police (except off-duty cops racing), and just some good old fun on a Friday or Saturday night.

The more you tell someone they can't have something, the more they want to have it.
