Charging for All-Out Auto Shoot
Anyone got any rough figures / estimates for either 1) what most photographers are charging and/or 2) what the typical auto-enthusiast would be willing to pay?
What I've been doing is about 15-30 minutes of stills from various angles, then about 15-30 minutes of motion shots, and a few minutes getting b-roll pics (close up logos, interior, etc.), I'll bracket some shots for HDR-post-processing also.
I've been trying to keep it to around an hour but I can easily take up a couple of hours if we hit a few locations. And once I start taking the pics it's hard for me to stop - I always want to try one more angle, one more lens, etc.
So I guess I'd plan on 2 hours or so of actual shooting. Then of course the culling and editing starts, I figure an hour minimum, but 2 hours+ is more realistic.
On the ones I've done recently, the goal has been to have a frame-worthy 20x30 poster size print.
When I take away my hobbyist/enthusiast feelings that make me want to do these for free, my time invested probably means I should be charging about $400-$500 for the shoot, editing, and that would include one 20x30 poster print in a standard (i.e., cheap) frame.
But when I think about actually quoting someone that much, I'm anticipating that there won't be that much interest - what do ya'll do when it's someone that isn't friends/family and they want you to do an all out photo shoot for their car?
I would have no problem charging $50-$100 for shooting and processing.
What I do offer to them are prints, in sizes up to 24x36 posters. Typically they'll purchase a few 8x10 prints, and a larger poster. Ill end up making a little bit off of that, but nothing worth anything considering the post processing time and all that stuff.
For people I dont know, who request shoots, this is my pricing list.
