Then outline the car. I use the lasso tool with the image at 100% size
to get the basic outline, then I blow it up to about 5-700% to get detailed.

Then either copy that selection to another layer and hide the background,
or select>inverse and delete the background.
You just have to zoom in and be careful about it. I don't know if you know, but when you are zoomed in and outlining a car, you can hit the spacebar and it will allow you to move the picture with your mouse. Then when you let go of the space bar, you selection will have not gone anywhere, and you can continue to outline the car.
photoshop work. It takes some time. I use the plain old lasso
tool and get a rough outline first, then zoom in and get more
precise. You can try other methods, like the pen tool or the
magnetic lasso, but I've gotten fast just using the lasso.
Good luck!

One thing I did to better my skills is before I started photoshopping on here, if i saw a request I would do it and then wait for jsears or pendragon to come out with their final product. Then I could match mine up and see where I needed areas of improvement. Then once I felt i was ready to submit one, i submitted it and have been helping out ever since. Even after Pendragon and I have been photoshopping for so long, we still critque each other and give tips. Nobody is perfect.
And the best practice is to ask questions. I am always willing to help and I am willing to bet Pendragon is by the way he does tutorials
