1300?

I had the engine on my Buick let go after not even 50 miles.

Here's where we are at today, with about 500-750 miles on this engine. Radiator level drops each time you drive it, radiator bubbles up to an open cap while the engine is running, and steam comes out of the tailpipes basically 24/7. Oh and a distinctive miss for about 10 seconds when you first crank it for the day.

Took me 5 hours to get this far. You get stuff done quick with no distractions.

Installed one of Wazee's billet PS pump pulleys.

This guy sure is clean. Had a matching clean tipped spark plug to go with it.

Thats painful, sorry to see it apart again. It can be really disheartening having problem after another like that. Head gasket?

Ever find out what the hell happened ???? The original pics of the 799s look
like they were belt sandered instead of carbide cut finish. Obviously wasn't
a gasket or fastener issue right ???? Just curious since I'm sure you did, but,
when you torqued the heads on install did you start at like 45lbs, then like 55
and 65lbs., etc. ????? Hope you get the dilemma solved.

Yes they were belt sanded. Good eye. Apparently our local machine shops are somewhat behind in the times. I have been successful with belt sanded heads and MLS gaskets but this one I wasn't. When tightening the studs I searched around and got conflicting answers. I went 3 equal times ending in 65 ft/pounds. Something like 20/40/65. I had coolant leaking at two corners of the heads. I re-tightened to 80 and they went away. I thought all was good. Apparently that did not seal the internal leak. I emailed ARP and they gave me specs of 3 times ending in 80 ft/pounds. So right off the bat I realized I screwed up and I think the reseal was merely a bandaid. I found the breach on one of the lower corner water jackets on the number 5 cylinder I posted above. You could tell the gasket had washed out. There were no imperfections so I suspect it was installer error. This time I tried like hell to get it right the first time.

Heads are installed up to the rockers. Haven't touched it in over a week. I'll finish it this weekend I'm sure.

Just a note, I noticed you didnt block off the coolant passages on the front of the engine when you painted it. I know its not a lot but having that paint sitting in there and then the coolant breaking it down and having in run through the engine and radiator would def bother me and I wouldnt have it. I dont think paint is a good thing to be running thru an engine block. Not saying its the cause of your issues, just something I would consider in the future IMO. Hope you get the head issue solved and the car back on the road.
