Looks like from the laymans point of view that he didn't judge his height and ground speed good enough for that maneuver. Same thing with that Apache crash.

From what I have read you need height and ground speed for lift which he ran out of. Of course that's mostly from what I have read about planes which I would think would translate to helicopters too.
