Glare problems while making videos

Glare problems while making videos Ok we went out and taped some racing.
when watching over the footage theres a bad light glare that comes from street lamps and headlights. theres like a duplicate light of it a few inches (on screen) away from the original source, basically making the footage useless.
Anyone know a way to not have this happen? we are using cannon XL-1 and GL-1, and I see that a lot of you get the same kind of night footage (in car, out of car on the street ect) so what do you do? id like to know before this weekend (13th) please as we are going to toronto and will be filming.
