Best Software for Video Editing?

What is your operating system?
Mac OSX : Final cut pro (For me it is best SW for video editing on any consumer platform)
Windows: Adobe premiere is very nice
Also : Sony vega's video is a nice&cheaper alternative so does the Pinnacle studio 9

The question is, what u want to realise ? Cutting, Editing, Producing, Effects etc ... u need more as one tool. And the best of what ? Easy to use or ....

yeah, it all depends on what you wanna do with the video.
if all you wanna do is import video to your hard drive, then crop sections out & stitch them back together, there's an awesome free program called VirtualDub that can do this.
if you're looking to do more than that, like adding transition effects between scenes, adding music to the video, etc., etc., then i would recommend something like Adobe Premiere (on the Windows platform, anyway).
and like LiquidSnake said, for the Mac, i would get Final Cut Pro
