That gives me nasty chills.

Those are my favorite planes of all time. Jets are cool and all, but they don't have any character.

Out here in Massachusetts, they have a few WWII ships/subs docked south of Boston. http://www.battleshipcove.com/ You can go out there, walk around, play with smaller two-man guns, climb up in the huge turret guns, and bascally do whatever you want. Some of the ships/subs is off limits, but not a whole lot.

I was down there recently with a local car club. I broke off from them and wandered around by myself. It was one of the most surreal few hours of my life. The exhibits are frozen in time.

Those ships/subs sound awesome. I grew up around warbirds because my father organized and ran airshows. I have been able to meet some legendary people and sit in and fly in some legendary aircraft. I have lived experiences most people have only dreamed of. Thanks Dad!!
This is a pic of me at one of those airshows.....

That's really sweet.

A CAD guy I worked with in another building here had a P-51 piston and rod displayed in his office.

I didn't know what it was. I asked if it was out of a diesel truck - the thing was huge. He explained that a friend of his is a machinist and did some work on a '51 motor that was being rebuilt. He had to fab up some bran new parts. I almost want to say that he built the pistons/rods for the motor, but I can't say for sure.

Yeah, Jon Sharp in his 'Nemesis NXT' had the left main fail and as it skidded off the runway the right main collapsed too. He was the favorite to win his class, he waked away unharmed.
Click here to see a sequence of his landing..

Those planes are so freakin sexy. (I think that's the first time I used that word in my life).

I'm not sure about the motor/owner. If he's still with the company, I'll stop by and ask. i haven't been to that building in a few years. Now that I'm thinking back, I remember he said his friend runs the shop in AZ.

I hope I can get more details.
