Unreal.
I met up with my first "overhead" surf a few weeks ago and I crapped my pants. I was so tired just from paddling out, that I had to sit there for 20 minutes. I was too afraid to take anything. (What a pansie.)

I wonder where that was? I know Tavarua has a invite only contest every year, if you can get some video from those it would be awesome! I am from CA and got to see a lot of the Championships there years ago, I miss not being able to out here.

I bet that's Mavericks. It's pretty far off the coast like a mile or half mile out from half moon bay in california. Well not too far but farther than I'd wanna paddle lol. That place is legend, they have waves there breaking 3 stories in height I heard. There's a bunch of vids and dvds with footage from there.

Yea, he's insane, they had a thing on 60 minutes or 48 hours, something like that on him. He's probably one of the most well known surfers in the world, and is considered one of the best surfers, but he's never competed in a tourney. He was in the a James Bond movie as a Stunt Double where they open it with him surfing. He also invented a surf board that has a hydro foil on it, that glides under the water. Which allows for less drag in the water, allowing him to find bigger better waves.

I went suring last wednesday in Surfside, Texas. The waves were as big as double-overhead. Those waves looked tiny compared to that big *** wave. That guy has some nuts.

You've got to be experienced as hell to be out there. Even with that Jet-Ski, I don't know if I could stay out of trouble.
I wonder how long the wave-period, or peak-period is between waves. (whatever that terminology is).
That overhead stuff I encountered here in New England was freaky - one after another after another, non-stop, 5-8 seconds apart. Way too tiring for me.

The 'between period' is called sets, ie. sets are rolling in every fifteen seconds. That would mean there are fifteen seconds down time, how many waves per set is variable and consistency as well. I don't know if I helped you at all with that...sorry, I may have been more confusing.

What I was trying to say is that there were no sets coming in, it was just one wave after another, and the pause (or distance) between each wave was very short. I think "Dominant Wave Period" is what I was thinking of.
The waves were caused by one of the hurricanes or TC's that came by at the end of August. They were here for one day, gone the next.
Normally it's very very laid back up here. A good couple of minutes between sets of about 5 chest-high waves (at best).

That vid makes the 6-8 footers I was catching look retarded. My g/f's cousin is Hawaiian and has lived in Maui her whole life. She has crazy surfing skills.
