Hey guys that's one of my vids, sardog46 told me about this thread today so I thought I'd show my face I think there's a couple of my ORR vids floating around e-land somewhere ? I'll answer a few questions about the car that you guys seem to have. It's got the stock 3.42 gears in it and that was using 5th turning between 6000-6100 rpms on an internally stock engine. Elevation there is 6000 ft and D/A was almost 9000 ft Definitely was taking a hp hit that high up.

BTW that was not WOT. The car still had another 4-5 mph left in it, but I could've been DQ'd for anything over my tech speed of 168 mph, I just HAD to find out what 170 felt like that's all

correct me if im wrong, but wouldnt a numerically higher gear ratio (4.10s' for example) make the top end gears even longer? for a better top end wouldn't you want like a 2.73?

Nice

I figured these motors would hold up to it but i've never held 5k+ rpm any longer than to stage a highway race. hehe.

What guages do you have in your vents? I noticed the one on the left was beginning to creep up, I guess thats water or oil. What other mods have you done to help with the high speed runs? Rear end cover to help with temps, engine oil cooler ect?

The stock 3.42 gears just so happen to be "perfect" for open road racing. If you went to a 2.73 gear then you would in affect be lugging the engine at too low of an rpm and the car wouldn't be nearly as fast. If you had a large cube engine and were making much more torque then you could probably run a 3.23 or maybe even a 3.08 but a 2.73 just wouldn't work. For a 346 LS1 the 3.42's are the way to go

The 3 gauges in the middle 3 vents are "engine oil temp", "tranny oil temp", and "differential oil temp". My water temp gauge is out of site in the left hand vent by the drivers door. As far as cooling goes I've got the LG Supercool radiator with the built in engine oil cooler and a differential oil cooler in the rear. Follow the link in my sig for an article on the car. The only differance now is that I've added an ASA cam.

Hitting 170mph is easy. Sustaining 170mph like you did is not.
