I've seen alot of people who have or at least been interested in getting rid of their back seat. The problem with doing this is that unless you have a giant subwoofer enclosure or amp rack to put in place of the seats, you're left with a big cavernous space back there and it doesn't really look right. My idea is to remove the rear hatch glass from the car altogether, and modify the sail panel part of the roof to look like the targa roof from a 68-76 C3 Corvette. The sail panel would be extended further toward the back of the car and slightly tapered in, and the spot where the rear hatch glass used to be would be filled in with a tonneau cover which would be attached and molded to the tailgate panel that the rear spoiler bolts to. This would accomplish two things: it would make the 4th gen a true two seater car, and it would shave weight off the car from not having that heavy rear hatch glass anymore. I'm thinking the new rear glass could utilize a lexan window. It would be set at a 90 degree horizontal position just like the C3 rear window was, except it will be positioned just slightly inside of the sail panel surround. The window will be recessed up under the sail panel about 2 or 3 inches, just far enough that a "wall" could be fabricated to hold it up and seal off the rest of the backseat area. I think the trick to pulling this off and having it look right would be to have the sail panel taper off at the same angle that the rear hatch glass tapers at so that when looking at the car from the side, the roof line is identical to the car with the hatch glass still intact. A Ferrari F355 or 360 roof line might also be a model to use for a mock up as well. Anybody out there think they could pull this off?
