36'X24" Garage... big enough???

Do you think it will be big enough? Just finished the building, doing the wiring now, just in time for the snow. (Doors are on now too.) What do you guys think of my new garage?

Supajut Dec 15, 2005 08:43 PM

Sorry those pics were way too small, here are some a little larger. Damn camera takes 1 mb pics, hard to tell how much to shrink them, enjoy!

GotV-8 Dec 15, 2005 08:53 PM

Very nice, 36'x 30'' would have been nice gave you a little more room to work. Still very nice. How is the weather in maine lol I cant wait for the sun to come back out!

Supajut Dec 15, 2005 09:36 PM

Hey, thanks. Went with the tight 3 bay because originally I was considering a large 2 bay (either 28X28 or 24X32) but for the same price +/- the door I could go small 3 bay. I figured that would work best for my wifes GTP my Z and then a spare bay that I can work out of. The winterbeater does not deserve a roof over it. Another factor on not going bigger is the price of lumber, fn crazy how much prices have gone up. Anyhow, I just got back in from running some wire and the temperature here is 11 degrees. And no, I don't have heat....... the fingers are a little cold, not to mention how the properties of snaking, running and bending wire are hampered by the cold. Yeah, Spring is a long way off. Can't wait!

Well hope the new 3 bay works out for you:D Good luck.

hmmm some thing is wrong

where's the lift? hehee nice

NOSjohn Dec 15, 2005 11:35 PM

If you don't mind me asking, how much are materials for that size. I'm thinking of building something similar to add on to my 24x24 garage.

Supajut Dec 16, 2005 05:49 AM

Lift? Hopefully in your garage! The materials (excluding slab, doors) were around $5-6K (just an estimate off the top of my head, have to actually sit down and add this up), depends how you spend your money. I went with 5/8" on the roof, T1-11 on the siding, 16" on center, and 2X6 on the trusses. Its probably actually more than that..... all those little things that add up that you don't plan on. I would say probably plan around $7 on materials, $2-3 on the slab (depending who your friends are), and I don't know on the doors, I hired them out. Hope this helps without too much confusion.

NOSjohn Dec 16, 2005 09:27 AM

I appreciate the information. It sounds about right, I've got quotes for around $10-12,000 built.

Supajut Dec 16, 2005 10:44 AM

Yeah, depends on where you are too, we have a couple trees here in Maine....... Goodluck with your project.

banshee400 Dec 18, 2005 02:42 PM

good r-12 ins. doors would be around 1800 installed

SAM98WS6 Dec 19, 2005 07:09 PM

I have some buddies with nice garages and lifts...everone says they wish they would have gone bigger. Room around the parked cars is key.

A couple have hot water heat in the slab...nice to lay on in the winter.

Thats kind a small garage. My parents have a 36 x54 pole building.

slvrhwk Dec 20, 2005 09:20 AM

You have a nice first garage you need somewhere to park out of the weather. We have a garage at the house and this is the shop but Florida has good weather year around except for them hurricanes. Your garage looks good though do you plan on heating it.

Supajut Dec 21, 2005 11:12 AM

Looks good. I would like to heat, but it will probably be next year. Don't think its in the cards right now.

sweet dude! big garages are great!!!, a couple of years ago my dad had a 40x46 built behind our house....i love it, its awesome...bigger than the damn ranch house we LIVE in!!!.....but needed something to protect all the toys....and yes the garage is filled right now, believe it or not!!!...we got too much crap!! lol

Supajut Dec 21, 2005 03:51 PM

WOW, thats more than double the square footage I have. That must be sweet. You guys must have alot of stuff. My bike, the riding mower, the Z, and the wifes GTP is a comfortable fit in mine, with one bay open for projects..

Casey98Z Dec 23, 2005 08:09 AM
