I don't think that his legs are messed up. He was bending them in some scenes and you have to have strong legs and abs to do pommel horse on the ground.

But that is still massive skill at work there.

I think he had legs to either just above or below the knee so he would still need the "crutches" and he could still either bend his knees or flop them for those moves.
...in the future, everyone will be famous for 30 seconds. That guy is famous for like 3 minutes! Awesome!

I'm sure his legs are there, just cannot function as ours would/do. I have to say that is damn impressive since most of us couldn't do that as we sit now (at least not my fat lazy butt).
