Amazing how violent the combustion is, yet it seems so smooth from the outside.

I thought the same! I bet thats why GM is coming out with that HC engine that drieclty injects the fuel and ignites it by compression rather than the traditional spark. It uses far lees fuel to make the same power. they said something like a 20-30 percent increase in efficiency!

thats why diesels are so efficient, most of the diesels inject the fuel in at 23000psi. The Solstice GXP and Sky Redline use direct injection, I believe the fuel injectors run at 13000psi in those, that is a huge step for GM. But has anyone noticed from Mazda, Audi, and GM the only three I know of offering cars with direct injection, they are all turbo cars (including diesels), wonder when they'll start coming out the NA cars with direct injection.

I only saw intake, combustion, and exhaust strokes... where's the compression stroke???
