Camera Help alrighty guys, heres the deal. deep down, i want a digital slr, however, i dont want to purchase a few lenses. im a college student, and photography is not my major. i also would like to be able to take a camera virtually anywhere without having to lug it around, whether it be to the fair, hunting trip, boating, just anywhere. so pretty much a dslr is out of the question and point n shoots are whats left. i would still like to be able to get a hq pic, and retain many options such as prolonged shutter speed and color temp options. i have never played with shutter speed or temp options, but from what ive seen on here, i would like to learn how to use these to my advantage. what point n shoot do you guys recommend?

also, i would like to keep it around 300 as im pretty sure the gf is going to pick this up for our 3rd anny. if there are better ones for the $, please steer me in the right direction

I had a Canon powershot A85 which did much of what you were looking for. Could be full auto, or practically full manual, or anywhere in between. The replacement for it was the A620 IIRC. They might have gone on to another newer model by now.
I've got a Canon Rebel XT DSLR now, I'm not a photography major or anything (far from it lol) but it is just fun to shoot with. I got it for a good deal from a friend when I actually had money a couple years ago. As it is I still don't take near as good of pics as some of these guys with point-n-shoots, they seem to have an eye for these things that I don't.
