Bidpay is owned by Western Union and uses their money order system, so the company is certainly "honest". But it is not inherently good/bad, it all depends on the person you are dealing with in the transaction.
There is no 'buyer protection' included in Bidpay, but since you have to pay for the money order with a credit card, you can dispute the charge with Visa/Mastercard/whoever if there is a problem. (Paypal supposedly includes buyer protection, but a number of people have had unsatisfactory results from it.)

Paypal only includes buyer protection on certain situtations. That's why you look for the paypal protection logo if you are buying from an auction. How you pay also matters. Read their FAQ, it helps point out the differences. As a seller & buyer, I had to know what I would be covered by when using Paypal to accept from buyers. I also wanted to know I would be protected if someone was going to dispute.
I've heard more bad complaints about bidpay than good ones. I feel safer with stuff I can track easier that I've paid, and who I've paid. Money orders tend to make me jittery, as unless I want to pay a fee to find out who cashed it... it's more trouble than it's worth in my mind. The only thing I can claim against is mail fraud if I mail a MO to someone than paying them with a CC and being able to dispute it.
