ls1 rebuild
I'm looking to buy a 2001 vette LS1. I was told that the motor has 30,000 miles on it and was removed for a stuck lifter. It sat out side for about a week with some dirt and moisture get in it. He says that it will need new bearings and rings. I'm looking to put it in a 68 Camaro. It has the wiring harness and the computor with it. Can anyone give me some direction on the cost to have it rebuilt and what I will have to do with the harness and computor. I checked with one local machine shop and he gave me a cost of $4100. I thought it was a bit high. I also have to purchase all the brackets. His asking price is asking $1500.

Ive seen LS1 short blocks go for 800 bucks. You can get a built motor for about the same price that machine shop gave you. Something to think about, and welcome to the site brother!

I bough the BRAND NEW GM Goodwrench LS1 from the dealer for $3300 and it came with a 3yr 100K warranty. Make sure you specify the New Goodwrench engine and not the GMPP for that price. All you'll need is injectors, intake and starter, everything else comes with it. To get an idea on prices check out www.crateenginedepot.com

I still have been looking. I found an LS3 that is new and has never been installed for $2800. I will still have to get a harness, ecm and external parts. This sounds like a good deal. I'm checking on the prices for the parts I need. If anyone has any info to give it would help. Thanks

I got quoted locally to rebuild my LS shortblock:$550 replace main and rod bearings with a hone and new piston rings and assembly of said parts. They buy the parts. Reusing stock crank rods and pistons. That's with me doing all other work like heads intake timing covers and all valve train. Basically I drop off the block crank pistons and rods that's it and they return it assembled and I put everything else back together.
