i was going to build a 350 at .060 over with some KB hyper pistons. i bought the pistons but now i am consdering getting a lq9 out of a silverado or something and boreing it out and whatnot. questions is can a set of pistons for a standard gen 1 SBC work in this block? i think i have heard that the skirts are shorter to allow for more clearance on these ls motors. so my guess is that they wont work at all ever.
also, are these motors worth the time and money to stroke and bore? id like 400+ cubes if i did that. whats the limit on these things?

The biggest reason that they will not work is the valve angle and location along with the clearance for the reluctor wheel. The Old School parts are 23 degree and the LS series are 15 degree except for the LS7 that is 12 degrees...

ahh yea i forgot about that reluctor wheel too. what kinda power can the stock pistons and rods hold up to in that lq9? maybe ill just leave the lower end alone aside from rings. ive heard of people running 10 and 12 pounds on stock lower ends in that thing, is that true?

they may have changed the heads completely though to reduce the CP as well. like i said its just a stock lower end, so its probably a good amount of upper end work. but it could be the 4 and not the 9. idk really. just heard about it

They make good power, a good set of heads, a good cam, longtubes, good intake and 500hp is right there...getting a sbc 350 to hit 500 is not quite as easy but with the ls comes other parts you need(harness, computer, tune, ect.) IMO its worth it because it is more reliable and very durable, but you gotta pay to play.

they raised the CR with pistons not heads. lq9 and lq4 heads are exactly the same. they are all 317 castings. there where some iron heads on the older lq4's instead of aluminum alloy ones.
