Default 408 vs 402 ???

I know that for the most part, 408 engines are based on the iron truck block, I hear about 402s, I'm ASSuming they are based on the aluminum blocks, why the small difference?

They are based on the 364ci LS2 block. 4.0 stroke + 4.0 bore = 402

Other than the obvious weight difference, why would you use the iron truck block? I'd have to ASSume that there are limits to the aluminum block? Anybody know?
