Intermittent Starting problem I have a puzzling problem with my 98 Formula, A4, stock except lid and muffler, with 44,000 miles. The fuel pump went out and was replaced about 2,000 miles ago. Last wed. I drove about 15 miles and all was good. when I tried to start it after sitting about 1 hr it would fire once, stumble a couple seconds and quit. I tried starting it numerous times including holding the accelerator down as if it was flooded but no luck. Thinking it was the fuel pump again I had it towed to the repair shop that replaced it. When he looked at it today it started right up and run fine. He checked for codes but none showed. Fuel pressure was good. Put it on the hoist and looked for loose connections etc. but wasn't able to find anything. Anyone experience something like this? If so what was wrong?

Update on starting problem. This morning the Formula would turn over but refused to fire. My mechanic came over with some diagnostic equipment (yes I have one who makes house calls!!!) Fuel pressure was 0. Relays were OK. Diagnosis = bad fuel pump. Thanks to everyone for the replys and ideas. I"ll update when the new fuel pump is installed. (Early next week)
