Default 98 vs 99-01 programmers

Looks like there is a different hypertech needed for the 98 models specifically. Does anyone know why?

Also how much tuning is possible from one of these units?
is skip shift elimination possible with one?
same with cat deletes, etc etc?

or Should i just go with a dyno tune instead?
I only have my exhaust and intake done, but soon I have plans for headers, cams and so on. What's ur take on all these 'programmers'?

-Basically the computer is different on '98s.
-As far as how much tuning is possible, it will vary from specific tuners, but it's not going to be a whole lot. You can do skip shift elim, rear O2 deletes on most tuners.

-Personally I would go with a dyno tune, but only after you do headers at least. You'll definately need it after doing a cam. I don't know what you would see with an intake and a cat back exhaust from a tune. I'm sure you'd see something, but I don't think it would be much.

-As far as I'm concerned, the tuners aren't bad, they just aren't the best since they don't tune it to your exact car. Different motors will respond to the same mods slightly differently. There's really no substitute for a good dyno tune.

I agree that the dyno tune is the ultimate way to go, I was just kind of wondering what all I can do with a programmer for the 98:
skip shift
rear 02 delete
fan temp
gearing
tire size
idle speed?

do u tell it what mods you have or can u actually play with the whole tuning.

And for the dyno tune, do they just flash my pcm the tune or I do I need to install additional components?

Because the 98 computers are a pita

Your best bet is to have www.tunedbyfrost.com send you a mail order tune and it will be better than the junk you are about to buy.
