Default hmmmm, L92 or Ls2. HELP!

Hi guys,

I've read until I'm blue in the face and think this will work but need to ask. I've got a backdraft racing track car that I'm finishing up. Its got a full cage, no windshield and without a drive train is a tick over 1500 lbs so I'm looking to go the ls route for a number of reasons. I was totaly focused on ls1/ls2 motor ideas and am now also looking into the escalade l92 engines which seem to be a bit cheaper and pretty much the same if not a little higher hp.

Its going into a blank slate so dimensions, header fitment, oil pan is not a consideration. Is the l92 a good mill for a mild road race car?

Can i get rid of the vvt cam, install an ls2 cam and use an ls2 timing chain?

Is the l92 block an ls2 block?

Can you go carb on an l92?

Any drawbacks that you guys can think of?

thanx,
chris.

Its going into a backdraft racing cobra, one of those fibreglass bodied cars but this one is very different. Its their TD car that has a lightweight frame and body, full cage, big brakes, fuel cell etc....I want to do an LS motor because of their hp to dollars ratio and how light they are as well as appear to be very reliable with stock guts. I have a straight cut road race t56 going behind it and only need around 500 ish hp.

My dilemma is budget( just like everyone) and I don't know anything about the gen 3 and 4 gm motors which seem remarkable compared to the ford motors I've built. If i could figure out how to post pics I'll throw a pic ofthe car up.

You'd be better off finding an LQ9 and doing an L92 top end. Much easier and more straightforward. Look up the L92 sticky that's posted here.
