Default Identify this engine LS1 or LS6?

Since the alternator is hung low theres no way this was from a corvette right? The head castings are serial #243 and since its a swapped engine It's a bit hard to get around to see the block casting. Was just wondering if there is any possible way this was from a 2001 Z06?

There is a way to tell if it is a LS-6 block by the block itself but i can not be sure what it is.I think it has to do w/ the casting on top of the waterpump area but there is a place on the website that tells you how.

grab a mirror and a flashlight, head over to the drivers side to try and see the back of the left hand deck above the transmission flange. a cast number of 12561168 will denote the ls6 block. also this might or might not help but it is said to be known that ls6 blocks have a higher shinier luster in the finish..

BUT there is also a bullseye/dimple mark on the front of LS1 blocks right under the coolant crossover tube, the ls6 blocks dont have this so i would look for this first, much easier.

243 heads were a common swap for a ls1, either way you got more hp than stock.

look for a shiny block and the casting number gixxer talked about. can you tell what kind of intake it has?

sounds like this may be a f body engine with 243 heads with the accessories you described.

so far it has the LS6 valve covers, ls6 pcv system, 243 heads. its possibly an LS6 you have to look more at block #'s and the block itself tho

does it matter...you could just say it is an ls6 because that's the stuff that it has bolted up to it. It will make the ls6 power

not with a matching cam it wont, and its a good idea to know what kind of block it is especally if you plan for nitrouse or FI setups, there are variations in the blocks that make them good and bad canditates for induction or nos.

putting a ls6 top end and valve covers is easy. Infact my ls1 engine looks like a LS6 on top but its just a ls1.

and for a true car guy it DOES matter, we like to know what we have. It is like going up to a guy with a brand new vette and asking him whats in it, and he cannot even tell you, just lets you know that he has no clue

There's your answer in your post treynon. You found #15105558 on the back space where it should display #12561168, if it were in fact an LS6 block.

btw, Cool Ride!

Disco.

Look right under the TB, if you see a small bullseye then it's an LS1.

Actually I was looking in the wrong place. I can barellllyyyy get a mirror around the wiring but I might disconnect some of the plugs tommorow and check it out or try a different angle. I saw a last digit of 8 which could mean either LS1 or LS6 and that's all I could catch so far. I'll check for the bullseye. Thanks for the compliments on the ride. I was only able to drive it up the street because It's still illegal without cats and it needs a tune BAD. That's actually why I'm checking for the Ls1 vs Ls6 because I hear the tunes are a little bit different. It does have an aftermarket cam 232/236 111lsa. Peace.
