Default Tuners?

Hello,
I have heard a lot of things about some of the tunners that are out. Like the Hypertech. I have a 99 LS1 Trans Am, are these things worth getting? Do they really work? What do they do? Any info would be great.
Thanks

A dynotune, mail order, efi live, hp tuners, etc are worth getting. Something about the handheld programmers scares me away. IMO, I would put the 350ish bucks towards having a tune done professionally.

Hypertech is useful under certain conditions. Their basic functions are as good as anything else (gear change, fan settings, shift points). For the guys that don't live anywhere near a good custom tuning shop, but have done mods that require speedo and/or shift point correction, it's good to have if you can get one used for $100 or so.

Do not expect to see any kind of noticeable power gain that even warrants the time to download the tune though. If you want power, get a custom dyno tune.

I would definitely go with a dynotune over a hand-held. The tune is more tailored to your specific combo. Some of the handhelds are nice to have so you can monitor different things in the car and check codes but if you only have roughly $400 to spend on it once, go with a dyno tune. I don't know anyone in Utah that does dyno tunes but if it comes down to it, we can do a mail-order tune for you and get you fixed up!
