switch oils?
hey fellas,
i have been using Castrol Syntec 5W-40 on my 02 Z28 for the last 2-3 years atleast instead of 5W-30 because i kept hearing how thin 5w-30 was and so fourth. i havent had any problems or issues at all and wondering would i even have any problems or should i even switch to 5w-30?

I'd get german castrol if you can find it, its more like a 0w-40, i switched to pennzoil platinum, a bit thin for my tastes, lost about 5 psi of oil pressure, coming from a "regular valvoline 5w-30" and from a fram to a mobil 1 filter.
weird huh? but u cant beat the price I suppose.

Don't be surprised if your oil pressure goes down some.

yeah, ill look into that german castrol. but i hear some people have a hard time trying to find them. so i may just stick to 5w-30.

You can typically find German Castrol at Autozone. It does go on sale sometimes.
I use the German Castrol in the TA....Runs smoother than when I ran Mobil1.
For the Wife's SUV and the 230K beater truck, I use 5W-30 Pennzoil Platinum. As you can see, I spend more money on the TA
No complaints from these two brands/weights of oils.

If you didn't search, how do you know that this question hasn't already been anwered five dozen times on this site...as switching weights has been discussed.
Better yet, GOOGLE shows "Results 1 - 100 of about 10,200,000..". I suspect you could have found your answer way short of the 10 millionth hit. On the way you might have learned something useful.
I always had low oil pressure with Mobil 1 at operating temp. I just got done going back to the German Castrol 0-30 wt over Mobil 1 5-30 and my oil pressure has never dropped below 40 when hot. When I start it on a cold start it's over 60 psi. With M/1 it would start at 40 psi drop down to 20 after warming up. Them damn Germans make some fugin good oil and great beer as well lol.
