I think it's just an appearance package.

The RS will have side skirts and a different, raised spoiler different than the SS spoiler. I think it also has a front lip but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Yea I'm pretty sure it's just an appearance package for the front bumper and side skirts.

are you talking about on the new ones? The RS package from 93-02 was the ground effects and spoiler package only i believe. on the new ones, it adds HID "Halo" style headlights, different bumper covers, and different wheels. I think only the V6 camaros from 93-02 came with the RS kits, but i could be wrong. I have seen people put RS kits on Z28s and SS's, but have never seen a Z28 RS. Again, this is just for the 93 and up cars, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens I have no idea.

Some of the Z/28's and SS's had the RS appearance package, but once they were upgraded to a Z/28 or SS it lost the RS title, I forget what the RPO code is for the RS appearance package but my Z/28 has it.
Kinda like how every Trans Am is a firebird, but nobody calls it a "firebird Trans Am" as soon as its upgraded to a T/A it looses the Firebird title. Although officially on a T/A title it does say "Firebird Trans Am''.

I might be wrong but i think on Z28 and SS it was called the sports apperance package (sap). Only the z28 received the raised spoiler the SS kept its original spoiler.

You and me both....

I could've sworn that along with the ground effects, came a "performance package" that included a dual exit exhaust and instead of the 2.xx gears, it had 3.xx.

Maybe I'm wrong

The "sport appearace package" was only offered on V6 and Z28 models. Not SS.

You're correct. The RS came with 3.42 gears, the appearance package (stripes ground effects, the dual exhaust (just like Z28 tips.) Chevy also offered just the Y87 package for V6s which gave a dual exhaust (turn down style not Z28) and the rest of the performance goodies (sport steering ratio and so on) but with out the stripes and ground effects. I just sold my 02 Y87.
