Default Need cam help!

So i want to put a better camshaft in my 99 trans am but im not sure how big to go. I dont want it to be to loud but a decent idle and a nice deep sound when i get on it. I was thinking 212/218 with .522/.529 lift and 114 LS, or 206/212 with .515/.522 lift and 112 LS. I was also wondering what the cons are of performance camshafts. thanks!

I'd definitely get a bit more aggressive lobe profile such as the 212/218 .558"/.563" that Comp offers. You'll be much happier with the more aggressive profile's power gains and you will not suffer from any driveability issues or anything like that! There's really no down side to it! We have a package that has the cam, Beehive .600" lift valve springs, and hardened pushrods for $589.99 plus shipping!

Let me know if I can help!

Contact Patrick G or Geoff on here. They can both make you up a custom grind for your wanting/application. I would step it up over the 212/218...too small and the gains wouldn't be worth it IMO. I would at the least go with a 224/224 or like a 226/230 on a .565 or .585
Those would both be great streetable strong pulling cams and you won't have to spin it to the moon to make power. Both have great power under the curve.

+1..

Get a custom grind. Better gains then off the shelf cams. A 227/232 would be another good choice. Not much of a difference from what Turk said...maybe 5-8RWH.

go to the TSP website, click on the TSP banner >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>what stall converter do you have?the TSP 220 cam kit will work with a stock stall.with a bigger than stock stall go with the 224r cam kit.you can buy a valve spring compressor from the ws6 store.I would think TSP would sell valve spring compressors with all the springs the sell.
