Default Getting VATS tuned out?

So my car randomly stopped starting last week. Took it to a shop, and the guy finally told me that it was the security sensor in my key/ignition lock that was causing the car to not start, which after doing some research I've found to be a decently common problem. The mechanic told me most likely the ignition switch/column would have to be replaced and the car reprogrammed, only to call me back a couple days later and say that he could just bypass it. My question to anyone out there who is familiar with the problem, is it a simple thing to do? He's charging me $60.00 to do it, which I don't think is too high, but I have no experience with tuning computers or anything like that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm without my DD.

I just did the Vats bypass on my car.....cost about six bucks for some resistors at Radio Shack.

Do a search on Vats bypass ....someone posted a good link on how to do it with the resistors. I don't have time to find it right now, if you can't find it send me a PM and I'll get it for you.
