Engine/trans suggestions needed! Looking for opinions on the best way to go. We are looking to put an LS engine into a 67 Chevelle. The car will be running on pump gas and will be a driver/pro touring deal. We would like to keep the budget around $6,000.00 or less on the engine, trans and tune. We would also like to make 450-550 hp and keep the fuel injection and use an automatic trans. I am up for whatever. I have access to a machine shop too to do a custom engine. What would be the best bang for the buck? L92 with LS3 intake, cam swap and 4l60E trans? LS6 with 4l60E? 408 with LS3 heads and intake?

You'll be cutting it close on your budget if you're going to go with an built LSX combo. It'll obviously be easier to make your desired power with more cubes, so a 6.0L block would be a great starting point. That'd probably be your best bet, imo.
