Default Knocking noise

I do not know the correct place to post my question as I am still new to Ls1 and I do not want to ask my question in the wrong place but as I said I am still learning! My main question is on my 2001 SS when you first start it up it makes a knocking noise or kind of a clicking noise for about 5 minutes but once the car is good and warm you will not hear it anymore. It worries me because I really do not want to do any damage to my engine. Thanks for any input or feedback. It would be greatly appreciated. Also any help in guiding me to the right area of of the forum would be great. Thanks everyone.

If its not extremely loud and just simple ticking, that is normal. You should here my Firehawk But don't hurt to check it out. I asked around awhile when I first got my car even though i knew it was normal, but wanted to be sure. I've considered changing oils to see if it helps but not sure if I'm going to do it or not. My 05 Monte carlo does the same thing so I don't worry about it..

Is it a knocking or is it a ticking? If it sounds like a sewing machine, it's normal.

^^That's what it sounds like to me. Especially if it goes away after the car warms up.

Is it a chirping noise like this? If it's not the noise, can someone tell me what it is? Heard lots of LS1's have this problem.

I would have to check it out from home, Im at work and cant log into anything on youtube or facebook.....too many people in my office abused them so they were removed from our server....however I am sure it is piston slap because it definitely knocks on the cold start and then once it warms up you can drive it and never hear it again including on the restarts as long as it is still warm.

That sucks dude, I'm at work right now and all I do is LS1tech, youtube and facebook while on the clock lol. But yea that chirping noise that I posted sounds only at cold starts and goes away when it's warm, that's why I asked if this is your issue. Let me know when you get home.

I can always hook up my laptop here in the office LOL! The owner is my best friend so he doesnt much mind what I look at it is just the others in the office that dont get a whole lot accomplished that he frowns upon. But I will definitely check it out. It just recently started though. I bought this car in 2007 and then I had it sitting in the garage for 3 and a half years but I am full time driving it now. All the suspension and rear end mods will come next. it has 96k on it and I stole it out of Houston Tx for 6800. Guy was in the middle of a divorce and as soon as I saw it on craigslist I was in route from San Antonio where I lived at the time. I would put pics of it up but man I am having such a hard time doing it...grrrrrr. I have a ton of pics on my computer in my pictures folder but for some reason cant access them. Bummer.
