Default Timing Chain Question

I was wondering if it is necessary to switch out the timing chain. I'll be running heads/cam/bolt-ons whenever I find my next f-body. Guesstimated rwhp is 425...should I change out the timing chain or leave it... and what are the benefits of doing so? Just a stronger chain? I've heard LS2 chains are $50 so I'm not worried about the money just wanted to know if it should be switched, rather be safe than sorry. Btw car will be a street car with little track time, weekend cruiser.

Thanks in advance for the help

From my personal exp I did a cam on my 2002 with about 30-32k on the motor and I felt safe doing it.

Anything more then that its something that is considered a smart move. At the same time do at least a ported LS6 oil pump. IF this motor ever sees another cam, it will get at min a C5R or LS2 timing chain and ported pump.

Also to make note the stock chain did have a little slack in it for stock low milage.

Thanks, I was also thinking of the oil pump too. Better put that on the list of parts

Might as well list everything I have planned:

LS1 block of course
243 CNC heads by AI
AI custom grind cam (something like 232 236, they will recommend me one when I order it based on my goals)
Chome moly pushrods, beehive springs
FAST 90 or 92mm intake + tb
36# injectors
Kooks 1 7/8 headers
LPP stainless true duals
LS6 ported oil pump
LS2? timing chain
Dyno tune

Any other recommendations would be great.

I see on the texas speed website they have LS2 chains for $42 but they also have ls1/ls2 double roller timing chain sets for $110.

The LS2 timing chain set is the same cost as the double roller set. Or should I just get the LS2 chain by itself for $42.

Nothing in that list screams "needs a double roller" I would be ok with a LS2, and def NO need to reuse the stocker.

Just the chain for $42? Or the set for $110. Cause the double roller is also $110, wouldn't this situation be a "might as well"?

Save the extra money and just buy the LS2 chain.
