Default Cam??

Okay I Have a 2000 Z28 the mods list

Pacesetter LT's
Ls6 intake
4.11 Gears

What I want to do now is try and find the best cam for my mods,
But I want a real lopy sound. I know for a big cam I need a stall and
Plan on getting one. What's the biggest I can go and still run A/C??

Thanks,
Mark

You don't need a cam for your current mods.. You need a cam to reach your goals and budget.

Future mod plans? Intake? Heads? Etc...
DD? Track car?
Budget for supporting mods?

You can run the largest cams available (Ms4/TREX/etc) and still run AC.

A converter is a must BEFORE or at the same time as a cam, PERIOD... Yes even something like a 224, PERIOD.

With the info you provided... Anything from an ls6 cam all the way to an Ms4 would work perfect.

If your looking for heavy chop, good driveability and good power, look into the gm asa cam. Proven cam and uses yellow ls6 valve springs. It's easy on the valve train, great for a daily driver and makes great power.

Also, it would work good with your ls6 intake. I would have went with 3.73's in The rear in an auto car, but should still drive great anyways.

Don't necessarily need a big cam for alot of lope. I had a 222/224 on a 112 lsa with a 110ICL and it loped like a sumbitch, even more than my other Z06 did with a 227/231 @ 111 LSA, it had a 106 ICL. Many factors determine your "lope". Search around the stickes...actually, go read the "Cam Guide" sticky in the Gen III internal engine.

With a stock cube motor you dont really need to do the 102 combo. It won't really benefit you that much. As for the cam, what are your goals for the car? I personally went with a comp custom grind medium sized cam because I drive my car daily and didn't want to lose too much driveability. It all depends on what you are doing with the car. Do your research, and make sure you change out the springs/pushrods while you're at it. And as someone stated above a stall is absolutely necessary.

The 102 will work on any sized motor. There is a reason why they replaced the 90/92 with it. You will gain more with the 102 over the 90 or 92.

With the stupid prices people are wanting for the 90 setups, you may as well spend a little more and get the 102 setup.

The car is my daily driver, but I already installed 4.11 gears, which effected the dd tremendously. I have the motor out so wanted to go ahead and swap the cam. If I was to get the MS4 what springs, and pushrods would I need?

I would call someone at either Texas Speed or Maryland speed, tell them what you are doing and they will hook you up with everything you need. Those 2 vendors are the ones I have used. If you're planning on buying from a vendor that is. I got everything for my H/C Swap on my old WS6 out of the classifieds here cause Im poor.

Just don't want to shove out all that money on the classifieds here and get shafted for a pretty good chunk of change, rather spend the extra money and know what I'm getting.

Trust me I would have bought everything from a vendor if I could afford it. I did make sure to get springs/pushrods and the cam brand new. The heads were mildly used 243's that I found on here.

What year is your car? 98= 806 heads. 99=853. 2000 and up= 853-241 casting. The # is going to be on the side of the head you should see it. I probably gained around 20 RWHP with the 243s, it would have been more had I ported them. My cam wasn't that big though, My car made 424/389

Just read you have a 2000. You have either 241 or 853 casting heads. Also if you look on here you can find 799 heads periodically, which dont have the sodium valves but are essentially the same as 243's. Hope this helps.

Would the mS4 be to big? Would hit hit the valves?
Don't mean to ask so many questions, just want to know before I spend the money.

the ms4 will fit .you get the best deal if you buy a cam kit with all the correct parts .it will effect your gas mileage ,and you need to monitor and change your springs sooner then mellow cams .it requires a good tuner .you should get some trunnion bearing upgrades with a more radical cam like the ms4.
