front sway bar? Can removing the front sway bar hurt the car in ayway? and how much will it help in the 1/4 mile? |
Lots of members say it will make your handling feel weird, floaty and unstable when turning at speed. As for weight savings, in general for bolt on f-bodies 100lbs are worth about a 10th of a second in the quarter mile, the sway bar is what 25lbs? If its worth it to you weight wise then go for it. I know lots of guys don't take the sway bar completely off but will just disconnect it from where it mounts by the wheels. It's been a while, but if I remember correctly that lets the car lean more during take off and transfers more weight to the rear wheel to give the car better traction. |
Yeah thats what I had thought. I just wasn't sure if it was worth the pain to disconnect it. I had just replaced the bushings on it and the bolts where seized on. A 10th of a second I dont think it worth the trouble. |
Yes its worth taking it off but if you put skinnies on the front you will notice it a little. |
It'll help a good bit with your 60 foot, especially with skinnies. |
is it safe to leave it off or should i put it back after i get back from the track? |
i daily drove mine for 5-6 months with it off could tell a little difference 17's vs skinnys up front but helped at the track enough to make it worth it |
I don't have skinnies so it would be full size tires still :(.. But if it doesn't hurt I might as well take it off to get some better weight transfer. I have 2 other cars this car is only when I wanna go out and go fast lol. |
your fine. Mines been off for 4 years now and I drive 3-4k miles a year. And driving w/ skinnies -vs- oem size, I will run skinnies hands down, not that turning the wheel is difficult in any way, but with skinnies the ease of turning is amazing. |
If you are going drag racing go for it. If it's a street car I personally would leave it alone |
Where are you running it, Cecil? |
I remove the front sway bar every time i go to the strip, i want to believe it helps more than it probably does. |
