Default First LS1 build!!!! NEED HELP

Hey guys! New to this forum. Let me give you a little background.

Dropping an LS1 into a 1998 BMW 328i. Plans of making it a weekend car and driving it to the track occasionally. Interior has been stripped and Roll cage is going in very soon! My delima is I know nothing about LS1s. Its my first build so I'm a little nervous. I want to put about 430 to the wheels while still having it reliable for street driving.

I recenlty purchased an LS1 5.7 shortblock from someone of CL. Its missing two pistons. Heres my plans for the build. Correct me as you see necessary.

1. Remove rotating assemble. Have the block machined.
2. New pistons, but what kind would be ideal for my situation
3. 243 Heads with yellow springs. Port and polish heads
4. Mild cam
5. I want to do a carb to avoid all the wirring work. Im short on patience.

I need to know if im going about this build correctly or are there steps or measures I'm missing. Also, i want to know what cam would be a good match to 243 heads with yellow springs.

Thanks guys. Sorry if the thread or question is a little vague. All answers appreciated!

you will need better springs if you use any cam other then a stock GM cam.check Texas Speed for parts and prices.you will need to rebuild the connecting rods and get better rod bolts if the rods are removed.another member on here did the same conversion.he took the car to the track and was fast.you only hone the bores out to 3.908.check the conversion section .look at the elderbrock intake/ignition kit for $600.

You'll probably get more help in the conversion forum. Good luck. 5.3 heads with a 228 cam would get you to around 430 rwhp and good drivability.

a 228 cam won't make 430 rwhp with out ported heads.make sure all your coolant hoses are very tight ! a GM or ASA cam make less then 400 rwhp.a texas speed torquer v2/v3 mite make 400 rwhp.
