Bore Ive purchased a 5.3 long block w/15k original miles. I was origanlly looking for a 6.0 LQ9,but this one came around cheap. Understanding punching out a perfectly good block to its max oversize bore may be unheard off to some. But im looking for more bang for the buck. This 4.3/4.8 block can be bored to 99mm,but can it be bored 101.6mm to make a 6.0?
I dont have the answer to your bore size question allthough I am thinking the answer is no... but my thought is if you bought it cheap sell it for a profit especially if you can document those low miles somehow, then go buy a 6.0
By the time you disassemble everything so you can have the block bored , pay for the machine work buy new head gaskets ,hardware ,reassemble , etc..look at all your reciepts and time invested you will say why didnt I just get a 6.0 ?
Nothing wrong with jumping on a good deal just use it to your advantage so it stays a good deal

The 5.3L can be bored out to a 4" bore. The machining cost could kill it depending on the price. The shop will have to make 2 - 3 cuts per cylinder to take it out that far, so they charge you per cut / 8 holes. Depending on that cost finding a 6.0L sometimes ends up cheaper.

Wow,so it is an option.
Ill need to price out machining cost,& compare. My plans are to build a healthy streetable engine that i could take occasionally to the local 1/4 mile track;converting a 78 Corvette.
