unknown engine leak?!?!

unknown engine leak?!?! I have a 2000 Z28. Yesterday I changed my belts as I am getting ready to drive her again this summer. ( I live in Alaska and she is parked half the year).
I noticed oil on the front of the engine block right below the valve cover. its not much but i know it cant be good. Also, when I bought the car, I replaced the spark plugs and noticed oil on them as well. And then I took the MAF off yesterday and noticed what looked and smelled like oil mixed with bad exhaust fumes inside the MAF.
I am wondering if anyone has experience with this type of problem and might be able to give me some tips on how to fix it. I am no expert with vehicles but like to wrench on my own. I have done some looking around and think it might be the valve cover gasget that needs to be replaced but dont know if there are other things i am missing. PLEASE HELP!

Sounds like a valve cover gasket. First thing to do though is put a new PCV valve in (probably 3 bucks & 5 minutes to change). that may relieve the pressure that is causing it to leak past the gasket.

My entire engine block was covered in oil. It was all under the intake, running along sides of the block, even running to the front of the valley and going down the front of the block. It turns out it was my oil sending unit behind the intake which is a common problem on them if it's never been replaced before.
