Cross threading the head?

Default Cross threading the head?

Luckily this hasn't happened to me.

But what happens when you strip the threads?

What about cross threading?

How do you fix it in either situation? Anyone experience this? (Im about to do a header install. Thinkin of going with ARP studs to prevent this)

You'd have to drill them out and tap yourself some new ones. And while that's never fun, it's not the end of the world.

Studs are ALWAYS a good idea, but more for durability than any thought of stripping the head.

Take a look at this link for some more information on taps and dies, since it doesn't seem like you're familiar with them.

I dunno if you are talking about header bolts or head bolts, i'm aussuming header bolts. If you cross the threads, you could probley fix them up with a thread chaser. When I did headers on an earlier vehicle i chased the threads anyway, as any perfectionist would. If you strip out some of the threads you are gonna have to drill it and put in a helicoil, I like to avoid drilling at all cost, very difficult to assume the correct angle.

What worked best for installing headers, tighten the header bolts first then connect any collector etc. If you bolt up even just figer tight the collector bolts it will be a headache putting in the header bolts. Do any welding last.
