Default Ls1 engine problems

Hello everyone. I got a motor from a 2004 GTO with 89k miles. I had a local machine shop rebuild the motor from top to bottom with new piston rings and all new seals.

I have the motor in my 1996 BMW and have put 7500 miles on it after the rebuild. When I compression tested it my numbers ranged from 148-160ish. I will find my compression test sheet.

I feel like these numbers are very poor. I compression tested my other BMW with 120k miles and original motor and I have from 155-160 across the board.

Also when I pulled the motor I drained the oil and smelled like gas. I think the piston rings are having some issues. Half the spark plugs had oil on them and the other half were dry. The motor also has oil consumption.

Can I get some opinions on what you guys think? The machine shop said the numbers are normal and the motor doesn't need to be fixed.
