Default New Mods

I am in the Middle of putting in 3.42s and an aluminum driveshaft in my car. Should be finished today. I had 3.23s w/ a steel driveshaft in it. I know it doesnt come that way but mine did.

What kind of difference can i expect out of the new gears and shaft? Any?

Also I only have mods in sig. and was wondering if I would be ok with nittos. Would my 10 bolt stand up for a while?

My guess would be a tenth or on a good day, maybe two tenths.

Gears aren't the best way to go with an A4. That's old school mentality. You should have saved yourself the money and installed a converter instead. The 3.42's will be slightly weaker than the 3.23's and won't give you no where the improvement a converter would.

So should i keept my 3.23s? I wouldnt have changed the gears but I have a v6 rear end in my car right now. So only one wheels gets power. I am adding a posi unit and the 3.42s came with it. I can still use either which would be better.

In your case, it's a tough call. You aren't just swapping the gears but also the carrier. Like I mentioned, the 3.42's will be marginally weaker but since you have to swap gears for the carrier anyway, go for it. It won't hurt. A converter is a better bang for the buck than gears but you have other reasons to swap gears. Just add a converter for your next mod and hang on tight.

Going from 3.23 to 3.42 does almost nothing, your should go to 3.73s. The drive shaft will not do anything. I would say that what you did will not show any gains. Maybe .05 if you are lucky.
