mileage?
question, i recently found a nice 01 z28 for sale with decent mileage then found out it was hardtop.
oh well, after much searching i realized i didn't think i'd find a deal like that again on an 01/02. i just found an 01 SS for sale in my price range. what i like about it is that it's an 01, but it has 90k miles on it. i wanna assume that with mileage like that it was highway, but in any case, is that motor shot? or do these not give up fighting for a while. i really like the car but i dont wanna buy a higher mileage 01 that's tired and ready to kick the bucket. what do you think? thanks, and sorry if this topic has been beat to death, i'm new

I wouldnt buy it personally. Keep looking. No telling what the cars been through, or how its been treated. You'll find what youre looking for eventually.
I just turned 77k on my 98, and my motor is still running strong. Bought it w/ 30k three years ago. I also take great care of the car though. I keep all records of any kind work that has ever been performed on the car.
the only reason i asked pretty much is because the SS is an 01, and it's got all the extra stuff. my other question is, is the difference really THAT glaring, or would it not be that noticeable that i could just dump an ls6 intake (and some other stuff) on the 98 and be just fine. thanks.

the differance isnt that much. i have a 2000 SS A4--it ran a 14.001 bone stock. my buddy has a 2002 z28 A4 it went 13.92 bone stock we ran the same night and both cars have about 30,000 miles. all LS1's run about the same time. the 01-02 are a hair quicker due to the ls6 intake, among other things. but if you plan on mods that wouldnt matter. a lot of people on this site will tell you: an LS1 is an LS1 is an LS1. if you look at JRP's signature under LS1 info you'll find all the information you need.

I'm currently shopping for a 97-98 C5 and the used car dealer which is doing the search for me has been instructed to specifically look at the higher mileage examples for me, since I want to save $$$. The higher the mileage, the bigger the savings. If he finds me one tomorrow with 150k on it I wouldn't turn it down, I'd just pocket the savings and enjoy the ride.
the mileage doesn't scare me, but the fact is it's not in my budget anymore so it's out of the question
thanks again, hopefully next time i post i'll have a nice f-body sitting in my garage. heh.-J
