Default LY6 Swap

Hello everyone my name is Tay..... I'm new here and have decided to swap my olds 350 for a 6.0 LY6. I have no clue as to what I'm doing 😂 But I hear that it's pretty easy🙈. I picked this motor up yesterday and I'm wondering what kind of mods can I do to get some nice horsepower out of it. The 6.0 is basically a ls3, right?? My neighbor said all I needed was a cam, ls3 intake and some headers and I'll be somewhere around 550hp on a stock motor. Is this true? He drives a Prius so I'm not sure how accurate his info is. Can anyone help me with this or steer me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

The LY6 is a very strong engine, but its a Gen 4 which gives a few hurdles to get over.

Whats your budget?
A LS3 intake and headers, with a VVT based cam will easily put an LY6 over 500 HP and still be fairly easy to drive.

Texas Speed is having a sale on their VVT-2 Camshaft right now for $300.

I would call and get valve spring and phaser limiter with it.

Or, you could delete the VVT and get a more traditional camshaft. I would only do this if you do NOT plan on running a stock ECU with the engine.

First and foremost thanks for the quick response.

As far as budget, I haven't set one. I planned on finding out everything that was needed to make this a bad *** motor and buy it. Of course I have to save up in the process but as long as I know what's needed I don't mind spending for it. I'm going to try to save where I can and buy some used parts
I'll probably get the cam today since its on sale 👍🏾.

I planned on using a stock harness but the motor didn't come with that or an intake. I don't want to have to buy an aftermarket harness if I don't have to cause those things are expensive.
