I replaced my broken shift handel with stock one [floor shifter] now with new handel on can't get it into park. But without handel on I can push down the white center part and it will go into park. It's like the button on handel is not pushing down to engage shifter

Is it on far enough to get the retainer clip into its proper slot?
I think it is just not in its proper spot, ..., either not on far enough, or too far.
