Default Not happy with Dyno results

Just got this car last week, here is how it did today on a dyno. 100% stock 2001 Camaro SS 6 speed with 16,700 miles.

1st pull - 285 hp 305 tq
2nd pull - 277 hp 308 tq
3rd pull - 275 hp 302 tq

My last SS made 320/338 with just a lid and muffler, it was also a 2001 6-speed. The only difference between the cars is that this new one I have has the RPO code for a California emissions car, where as the old one did not.

The car also dipped into the high 11's for A/F.

Anyone have any insight on why I have low HP numbers?

maybe you should start leaning out your cat a bit. or maybe it could be the dyno your on. Was your first car dynoed on that dyno? You just gotta asking yourself some of these little question's.

looks like you are down about 20 rwhp for some reason. As you know, most stock 6-spd SS's put down over 300 rwhp no problem.

fouled O2 sensors?
fouled MAF?
throttle position reaching 100% (wide open?)

Most of these low numbers I've seen are due to the throttle position sensor not reaching 100%. Take off the air intake and look inside the t-body and make sure when you floor it inside the blade opens all the way. If you have AutoTap, verify if the TPS reads 100%.

Bad MAF meters won't show a code, but cost 15-20 rwhp most of the time. Same with screwed up O2 sensors.

well one good reason is your a/f ratio diping into the 11's. if they dip any lower just paint the car pink and put a little tail on it. oink oink

I've seen more than a handfull of 2001 cars melt down a catalytic converter or two, but that has to do with bad A/F. Maybe one is restricting the exhaust??? I personally know of one car up here that is on it's 3rd set of cats at 21K and another that just got it's second set at 18K (they were both black )

I think you've figured it out on your own. That California programming doesn't help, and the A/F ratio is probably the rest. Fix those 2 and you might be around 300HP. Also, 285HP is much below average for an LS1, plus the dyno could be a bit off.

My car is a Cali car, and I dynoed 317/322 with a lid and a catback at 40K miles. My A/F was right around 12.

when will people understand there is NO difference in cali cars and cars around the country. think about it, its not cost effective for GM to make "special" cali cars. ALL ls1 cars meet LEV emissions standards.

just out of curiosity, these numbers did come off a Dynojet right???

a mustang dynamometer uses a differenct principle that simulates load on the rollers and usually yields lower HP/TQ numbers...

just a thought.

Yes it was on a Dyno-jet, the first run the car did not cool down, I pulled up to the shop, pulled on the dyno and let her rip, after seeing the lower than normal numbers we let the car cool for about 15 minutes with a fan blowing directly onto the intake manifold, the temp of the engine was 179 degrees (according to predator) when the second pull was done and the third pull was done right after the second with no time to cool down.

I used a predator I have for another car to monitor the live data, no KR. I also checked and the throttle body plate opens 100%.

I think it just might be a weaker motor. I guess I'll just stick to getting 30+ mpg rather than race it, lol, because that I can do.

Is there a way to check and see if the MAF is fouled?

Then why even throw on the RPO code to state it is a Cali emissions vehicle? That would seem like a waste of time to me.

Sweet Cheeks-

Have you had a pep-talk with your car? Maybe you hit it or yelled at it when you shouldnt of?

I really am running out of ideas. If the TB is workin alright and nothing seemed wrong through your Predator, then that leaves the MAF and not much else. Those numbers are below average for a WEAK M6 car.

How can one check the MAF? How do you clean it? I have another SS I can swap with to see if there is a difference, but its an 02' and and an automatic car, if that matters.

i dont think it has anything to do with california cars.. like was stated they all were produced the same. i thnk cali cars just need the RPO code for emssions purposes.

my 98 z28 dynoed 315/ 328 with A/F 14-17. also bent right rear axle if that matters. mods that matter are lid/fram filter and cutout
