A shortblock pretty much includes the block and the rotating assymbley(Crank, Pistons, Rods) Maybe a couple other things...

A long block includes the cam, heads, and the shortblock...

a short block is a block with a rotating assembly (crank, rods, pistons, rings, bearings) and a long block is a shortblock with heads.

cam, lifters, ect are all options you can add when buying a long/short block but they dont come standard.
