Thumbs up knock sensor relocation??

So, I have replaced my blown ls1, with a rebuilt ls6, including a ls9 cam, headers and hooker exhaust system. My 01 z28 is now significantly louder, and I'm getting a po327 code, on a regular basis.
Someone told me to relocate the knock sensors to the sides of the block, and use the extended harness.
My question is, do I use ls1 knock sensors, or ls2 knock sensors??
Thx, as always. Appreciate everyone's vast knowledge and wisdom, learned only, by just doing it.

Ls2 knock sensors won't work on an ls1 setup. The ls6 should be the same as the ls1.

You need to troubleshoot the knock sensor code and find out what the problem is.

I've heard that it's best to use ACDelco knock sensors and not to use off brands. Drilling and tapping holes on each side of the block is pretty easy to do.

Thanks!
Uhmm, not sure but it's a low voltage error, according to the PO327 code.
Crimped, pinched or corroded wire, would be my guess.
Thing is, I have to pop the intake off, to trouble shoot.
If I can mount on the side of the block, they would be much easier, to check.
So, I'm assuming then, screw the threaded 8mm sensor in to the side of the block, then.

It will be difficult to do with the engine in the car as the locations are near the engine mounts.

You could probably still drill and tape it with it in the car but most likely a PITA!

Does the gen 3 block even have the boss on the block to tap? I'm thinking it would be next to impossible to do in place anyway.

I'd figure out where the problem is and repair it myself. Removing the intake isn't that bad.

Yes you can find areas on both sides of a Gen 3 block to drill and tap for knock sensors. The intake manifold is not that difficult to remove and most likely there's a faulty sensor or connection issue with the sensor or sensor harness or both. Not uncommon to find the rear knock sensor rusted to the point of a bad connection due to moisture finding its way done into the valley cover hole for the knock sensor. I'd make sure to use quality parts and seal the grommets on the knock sensor harness to the valley cover to prevent moisture from getting in there.

By the way you would probably get more responses if this were posted in the Generation III External Engine section.

Understand. This is the front sensor, with low volt error.
Just trying to think outside the box, as I hear, that lot of guys are doing the external thing.
Thx!!
