Default What is this?

I took my intake off to paint it and see this thing sticking up at the rear of the valley pan. What does it do? It's never been connected.

Looks to be a broken oil pressure sensor

Oil pressure sending unit. They are often broke when working on intake. You also need a special socket to remove/replace.

You ain't lying, I ended up install a 1 inch nipple on the switch before reinstalling the new one. Makes in easier to access it down the road.

Yep, that's the oil pressure sender sensor. I broke mine just like that when upgrading to the FAST 92mn LSx air intake manifold and throttle body on our WS6. Didn't notice until I put everything back together, and the gauge read 0 oil pressure on the dash. Had to re take ALL OF IT OFF, replace it (with a special socket), and put it all back together. It was annoying, but I got pretty good at doing the manifold by that point. lmao

Thanks guys. Interesting, my engine is all after market. Transplant to a 61 Impala. I apparently don't need it as I have an oil pressure gauge and it works. I built it 10 years ago so I don't remember where the sender is. Good to know I don't need to use it. Thanks for the help.
