Default Advice on adding a Cam

I’m set on adding TSP 1 7/8 long tube headers into the speed engineering true dual exhaust next spring, but want to also then get into the stock LS1 engine and add some chop with a cam. Of course, I want the best cam for performance because eventually I want the car to push out a lot of HP. What cam is best, as well as parts to go with it? Thanks for any time and advice!

Contact some of the sponsers on ls1tech and give them all the information they will ask to be able to spec the "best" camshaft for what you are wanting to achieve with your vehicle. Be honest with them and yourself or things won't turn out optimally . Be ready to spend a lot of $$$ as a cam upgrade leads to other necessities to have a well working system.

Like the other comment states there’s really no “best” cam. There’s “better” cams for different aspects of whatever the use of the car will be. But just to throw it out there comp cams line of lsr cams are great sounding with some pretty aggressive chop and not much drivability loss. Last one I installed one on a heads longtubes and intake ls1 deal thru m6 made 414 rwhp and was still a pleasure to drive around town and any cam that’s really going to increase power significantly valve springs are a must. Many are going to suggest comp cams kit but on a budget lunati sells a good duel spring kit for under $300 I just wouldn’t use the seals that come in the kit. They tend to pop off after a few hundred miles in my experience. A good timing chain preferably double roller and some hardened 7.400 pushrods should pretty much sum up the nessessities of a cam swap. Good luck

As mentioned contacting a vendor like Cam Motion and sharing goals, use for car, other planned mod's etc will help the vendor make a good recommendation.

Most LS1 fbody's have a fair amount of miles. I'd mention that to the vendor as even with roller lifters there's a point to consider new lifters when doing a cam swap. New lifters require the heads to come off on an LS1. So to my way of thinking doing a nice heads & cam package plus new lifters starts to make sense if going into the motor..

Double roller timing sets are nice Most, two of my LS1 cars have them. However, sometimes extra work is required to clearance for a double roller depending etc..

Lot depends on the planned use for the car.

Theres literally thousands of LS Cams out there, there is no "best" Cam. I recommend getting in touch w/ one of the Vendors and they'll put you in the right direction.
