headers...a cam install with allt he proper parts and a professional install with tuning WILL cost more than a grand. trust me, im the king of finding deals and when it came to getting a cam, it will cost me over 1000 bucks with tuning and a professional install after you include allt he tinker toys you need for the heads.

you can easily do a headers and ory pipe install yourself. i suck at mechanics and was able to do it with the help of having a shop bay and a friend in less than 3 hours time. great results, untuned i picked up 18 rwhp with pacesetter headers, uncoated. total cost was 340 bucks if you include the two cases of beer we drank after th einstall

My mechanical skills are pretty close to nonexistent. I've done brakes, and that's about it. I'll see if I can find a place to do it and read up on some install guides. 18 rwhp for less than $400 isn't a bad deal at all...

I'm not mechanically inclined either (my Z28 is the first car I've ever worked on) yet I've done every mod in my sig myself with the help of a few friends and a basic set of mechanic's tools. Everything's pretty straight forward and relatively easy as long as you follow the instructions, and have an extra set of hands around to hold things, hand you things, help push, pull, pry, etc.

I've been told that the tuner will up the idle speed to 950rpm and just by using the throttle I can tell that it will sound very stock! It has a nice lope at around 800, but a little too much for my taste. But at 950 it is barely noticeable. I like this cam a lot and can't wait to get my headers and then get it tuned. I'm hoping for around 370 hp with the cutout open. The last mod that I'm not sure about is to do a home porting job on the throttle body. Not sure if it's worth it or not.

Thanks,
Glenn

1st to Dr. Juris: I think the headers for 1k. If you are paying someone to do it the 1k should cover it and maybe get your plugs and wires.

Glenn, it sounds preety sweet. I plan on a TC this summer and if I can get the cash I plan on headers and cam and head work next year with a tune. A buddy said I should get ls1edit and do the tune myself but I want a pro to do it and dyno it before and after. My goal is a relatively street sounding F-Body (until WOT) that will be in mid to low 11's (if possible).

Thanks for the feedback Glenn and Dr Juris good luck with your decision

Default headers or cam

I have a 02 camaro ss ;and i went with the cam.Because of the advice given to me by a friend who knows alot about these cars. Iam glad i took his advice because i went 3 tenths faster and 3 miles and hour quicker in the quarter mile. The cam is just a 216 cam.114 LSA. With springs included. The whole job cost me around 900 bucks. Go with the cam you won't regret it!

You should be able to get 3 tenths from exhaust on a stock LS1.
