Default Gears

Hi hope all is well. I have a 2000 trans am ws6 with stock heads, magic stick 4 ,and 4000 stall, 4l65e transmission. My question is wich gear should I run 390,or 373 not much experience with 4l65e trans I grew up with 350 turbo, and 400 trans. Thanks alot fellas

As you have a WS6, assuming it was originally a 4L60E (none of them came with a 4L65E, so the trans must've been swapped at some point) car then it would have come with 3.23s stock. With a 4000 stall speed already in place there is almost no performance advantage to a 3.73 swap, so you'd have to go numerically higher (like 4.10+) to see any real gains. The only advantage to a 3.73 would be to slightly "tighten" the feel of the converter at part throttle (if that's your reason for swapping). If you want significant performance gains, then 3.73 will be a waste of effort/money given your current setup.

So ill try the 390 then one guy was saying 390 was too much but it's never gonna be on highway only drag strip and back country roads

I would probably just go to a 4.10 if you're not worried about highway driving. Anything less might be disappointing (in terms of additional gains) given the stall speed you already have.

It might be a 4L60E, maybe he thinks it's a 4L65E.
4000 stall,what brand ?

yes the trans was swapped and 4000 stall was added
